15 Things You Will Love About Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
Disney Worlds Port Orleans Riverside Resort
One of two Moderate Category resorts, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, with just above 2000-rooms, Port Orleans Riverside Resort is just a quick bus ride to the Magic Kingdom but feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. Here are 15 things that we loved on our trip to Port Orleans Riverside, which I think are worth sharing and could be a little useful when boking your next Walt Disney World Vacation!
1. Yes, you can sleep 5 in the Alligator Bayou. Our standard Room in the Alligator Bayou Rooms came equipped with a single Murphy bed (suitable for ages 9 and under). Royal rooms are available at this resort, but our standard room had plenty of magic to offer during our stay.
2. Pool with a Water Slide! Yes - the main pool for Port Orleans Riverside has a waterslide and other fun features (including pool parties). There are also 5 pools located in the throughout the resort to get away from any large crowds.
3. More Fun! The Riverside has other amenities that can be a little hard to find all at one resort. Other amenities such as pole fishing rentals, kid’s playground area, camp fire area, bike rentals and carriage rides are all offered.
4. Movies under the stars. Need a break from the parks? Movies under the stars are offered in the courtyard at Oak Manor – French Quarter, which is right next door.
5. Easy transportation – Whether you are taking the Magical Express directly to Disney World, or are catching a bus to the park, there are plenty of transportation options, including 4 bus stops around the resort. For peace of mind, there is a bus display screen that lets you see when each bus will arrive (based on your destination for the day). You can even take a water taxi to Disney Springs!
6. Good Food - This resort has a sit-down restaurant that takes advanced dining reservations, the Boatwright’s Dining Hall, a southern inspired menu & décor. The main food court with options including comfort food, sandwiches, salad, pasta, pizza, baked goods, etc. is a nice stop for a quick meal and snack before you head to the park. This is also the perfect time to fill up that refillable mug (microwaves & toasters are also available for guest use).
7. Muddy Rivers – A bar right next to the pool also offering quick snacks. Need I say more.

8. Entertainment - Playing at the River Roost Lounge at Port Orleans Riverside is the famed “Ye Haa” Bob Jackson. Bob performs a very popular piano sing-along comedy show with lots of audience participation. Bob’s shows are Wednesday through Saturday, from 8:30pm until about midnight.
9. Rapid Refill Mugs – Yes, they are worth it! You can purchase a Resort-refillable mug for $18.99. The dining room also has a nice beverage selection with a mug cleaning station.
10. Laundry Rooms - I know, not super fun, but the great thing is they are located right next to the quiet pools. So, while you are getting caught up on the laundry you can catch a little sun next to the pool!
11. Evening Campfires – generally take place from 5:30pm-6:30pm on the same nights as the movies at French Quarter, and Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Riverside. You can roast marshmallows for free, or you can optionally purchase full s’mores kits.
12. Sassagoula River Cruise to Disney Springs – Also known as Downtown Disney. Enjoy the 25-minute or so ride along the waterway.
13. Affordable! – Generally, the average price per night is around $250. This of course does not include any possible discounts or specials. Trust me that this moderate resort will be worth it, just in its relaxation value alone. This resort was our break away from the crowds and it did not feel like we needed a vacation from our vacation when we arrived home.
14. Fulton’s General Store – This store sells a wide range of Disney Merchandise as well as vacation essentials.
15. MAGIC! Staying in this resort will make you feel like you are traveling from the Bayou to Disney World every day. While spending time at your resort it isn’t hard to forget that the Magic Kingdom is right in your neck of the woods. The transportation is easy, and rooms are perfect and there is plenty to do including enjoying the relaxing atmosphere around you.
